Dr Archana Sharma’s suicide in the Dausa district of Rajasthan has triggered national outrage in the medical fraternity. She took her own life after being accused of murder. A pregnant woman, Asha Bairwa, who was mother to three girls and delivered her fourth child in the hospital run by Dr Sharma and her husband, Dr Suneet Upadhyaya, died from PPH complications. Dr Sharma’s family alleges that Bairwa’s husband, a labourer who has said he can barely read or write, was pushed by local BJP politicians to file a murder case. Once the murder case was registered Dr Sharma’s hopes for justice were dashed. She took her own life. The BJP has not responded to the case yet.

Mojo Story contacted BJP’s Rajasthan leadership for a response but they declined to comment. We have also contacted BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena, who, as per Dr Suneet is responsible for protecting Balya Joshi, the man who led the protests against Dr Archana Sharma. The story will be updated with his response.
Mojo Story also reached out to Rajasthan Patrika for a comment on the allegations against their reporter Mahesh Bihari Sharma. “We don’t know why our reporters are being dragged into the matter. Let the law take its course,” Bhuwanesh Jain, Deputy Editor, Patrika Group responded.
